Chinese Proverb

Red Threads:
When a child is born, an invisible red thread reaches out from the child's spirit and connects to all important people who will enter the child's life. As the child grows, the threads shorten, bringing closer those people who are destined to be together.

Free Day in Hunan

It is cold and raining here today. We went to the Hunan Provincial Museum this morning. It has a 3,000 year old mummified woman. The woman is very well preserved and you can see her. She is not wrapped in cloth like most mummies. They have artifacts to see. We did not stay very long. Austin was tired and ready for a nap. He is having a harder time today. He gets upset when Mama holds him today. He only wants Daddy. He is still a great eater. He does have a cough so I think he does not feel well. Austin seemed to be very serious and sad looking in the taxi over to the museum. On the way back, I asked our guide to tell Austin that we are not going back to the orphanage that we are taking him with us back to the hotel. Once the guide reassured him that we are going together, he seemed to smile again. Back in the hotel, he played and laughed out loud. He started saying some words we do not understand. His orphanage spoke a local dialect, so Austin does not understand Mandarin Chinese. He ate noodles and fed Mama some of his noodles. It feels good that he is not totally rejecting me. It is normal for adoptive kids to favor one parent then another. This all will pass with time. Another good thing that happened for him today was his first dirty diaper with us. It is a good sign that he is becoming more comfortable with us. We are taking baby steps. We plan to order Pizza Hut delivery to the hotel to stay out of the rain. We also want to try the Chinese version of pizza. We have experienced some real Chinese food. Much to our surprise, the Chinese food we eat in Tennessee is not even available here in China. We are on an adventure of a lifetime. We miss our family at home so much. We have completed our family with Austin. We are very thankful for grandparents at home taking care of our girls. Without them, this adoption would have not been possible. We love all of you at home and in a little over a week we will head back home. We are so looking forward to being together as a family of 6.

  2. Now I'm sorry we didn't visit that museum...though I'm not surprised Austin didn't seem that interested. Hooray that he had a dirty diaper! Sounds like he is getting more comfortable with you every day. Enjoy the pizza.
